Pastoral Letter

 from Deacon Maggie Blake

Dear Friends

Christmas is behind us; the New Year has begun and now is the time to take stock after all the busyness and celebrations.  It is a time to re-evaluate our lives, values and expectations.

I am sure that if you were fortunate enough to receive some gifts at Christmas there will have been some that you really longed for and some that made you wonder what motivated the giver!!  Maybe you were given something similar to your heart’s desire but, in your opinion, a cheap alternative.

Maybe the weather has also been a great disappointment, cold with snow everywhere and going anywhere a trial – alternatively and great treat, no school or work and fun in the snow.  These things are all subjective depending on our physical state and state of mind.

The one thing that remains true and sure is the promises of God made know to us through scripture.  I have enjoyed Psalm 37 recently and urge you all to read it.  It is chock-a-block with encouragement and promises; something to reassure us that we can rely on God’s promises – no matter what!  Things might not always turn out as we might have wanted or expected, but God’s promises are solid and dependable.

In our vision statement we have stated that we will provide an environment which nourishes and strengthens people of all ages for their spiritual journey.  I urge you all to revitalise yourselves with scripture – even if, like brussel sprouts, it is not always to your taste, it nourishes and encourages,  and is good for us!!

Take it – read it – live it; and your year will surely take a turn for the better.

With every blessing for 2010

 Maggie
