Railway and Transport Club

The club was started by a few friends in the Church and has expanded to a membership of nearly 50.

It has been another good year for the Railway 8t Transport Club. Since January, we have moved our meetings to the Bradbury Centre, which has provided a platform to improve them a great deal.

The upward trend in meeting attendance reported last year has continued, and a new record was broken at that first Bradbury Centre meeting when we welcomed over sixty people for the first time.

Our varied programme has no doubt helped our success. This year's offering including local subjects like the railways of Reading and the Kennet and Avon Canal, and in complete contrast the Ocean Liners of Southampton and a member's own trip across the Atlantic. Once more, we aim to inform and entertain.

An important part of our meetings is the opportunity for fellowship and this is provided through a refreshment break where tea and homemade cakes are on offer. We also have a well-stocked library to borrow from.

We continue to maintain an active outdoor programme. We traditionally hold a barbecue in the summer, and enjoy a visit to a Heritage Railway sometime in the Autumn. Last year, we visited the Bluebell Railway on a busy gala day that was enjoyed by all. This year's outing is being discussed - details are expected soon.

Recognising the appeal of our talks to a wider audience, we have made further efforts to increase publicity, including more advertising locations, we naturally rely heavily on word or mouth, so IF you know someone who may be interested, let them know - we will always be pleased to see them.

Meetings are held  on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.45pm, unless stated otherwise and are open to all.
