House Groups
MONDAY EVENING HOUSE GROUP - the group, which meets twice monthly, has grown in numbers over the last year. We mainly meet in the home of a member and at present are following a study course on prayer. Over the past year we have benefited from looking at Time to Talk of God - a study course published by the Methodist Church which encourages us to talk to each other about our faith. We spent some time looking at John's gospel, but found the study material chosen rather hard going! Our meetings are very informal with time for coffee and chat as well as study. You would be very welcome!
Thursday - AT - Two House Group - the group has continued, happily and purposefully, to meet twice a month for prayer, discussion and fellowship using the courses provided in the Methodist Recorder and sharing our concerns for one another and the church. At present we are using "Better Together" a subject which is providing us with plenty of lively exchanges on various aspects of Relationships - within the Church, with strangers, in the family, where there are breakdowns in relationships and - yet to be discussed - our relationship with God.
We have continued our support of Rev. Andy Moffoot and family in Kenya and have just sent him a further £50 from our "Thank you for Thursday-at-Two" pot and hope to maintain contact with him when he takes up his appointment in Reading in September.
PRAYER GROUP - The Group meets on Friday morning between 8:45 and 9:15 with the role of praying for the life of the church, its activities, its work in the community and the wellbeing of its members. However, each week seems to bring to the notice of the group a variety of needs and people who must be prayed for. Sickness of members and friends has high priority during this time of prayer. The fellowship, from their own experience, know the value of prayer for those who are in hospital or confined to home. The changing politics in the world often cause grave concern and, although we are but few, we feel compelled to pray for peace and for those who are suffering from hunger and/or persecution. You will see that this list is wide yet the group feel that without prayer the church cannot function effectively nor can it expand in its witness and love for all members in our congregation. The young, their learning in Junior Church and theyoung people in their various groups, are a priority for we realize that they are a vital part of the Church's life and growth. Sunday Services are at the heart of our time of prayer, both spokenand silent, for we know that God by the Holy Spirit directs preparation and provides grace for all the activities that may take place.
For those few of us who meet, we know that we have a large responsibility and would like others to share with us. There must be many in the church family who would benefit by being with us to engage in this spiritual work for the church. Prayer is a must for any church which sees its roles of evangelizing, teaching, preaching, pastoral concern and community involvement as its mission in our land at this time. We look forward to seeing more people with us on Friday mornings. One member said recently "what a wonderful way to start the day"
